Our services on a Sunday - what can you expect?

Our services start  at 1030 in the morning and last about an hour and a half. We sing hymns, we pray and we have a sermon from the minister. Part of our service is 'Family Time' when members of the congregation share their experiences of the week gone by. It might be somebody's birthday when the lucky person (no matter how old) gets to come to the front for a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday to You'!

Who leads the service?

In the Methodist church preachers are largely drawn from the congregations themselves (and are known as Local Preachers, following a period of training and assessment) and move around the circuit on a three monthly timetable. The circuit also has five paid Ministers who each have a small number of churches in their care. Graham Miles is Deptford's minister and he is also in charge of the whole circuit. Graham leads the service at Deptford at least once a month, usually on the 4th Sunday of the Month for communion. Melissa Quinn is the church lay worker, and leads the service at Deptford once a month. Graham and Melissa both preach in other churches around the circuit.

I have children - what is there for them?

The Junior Church is thriving and takes the children out of the service most weeks for activities tailored to them. They rejoin the service at 'Family Time' and share what they have been up to. During the year they also take the service from time to time.

Will there be tea?

Of course - Methodism is fuelled by tea & biscuits!
And we are always looking for volunteers to make it.....
